YOUNG BIYAMITI WEIR MALE

It's remarkable how the bush has no limits to the endless potential surprises that await's one when gates open in the morning. This Young Male Leopard just North of the Biyamiti Weir was no different. Its the first time (that we know of) that we'd seen him and my word did he exude confidence for a young Male Leopard. It was an absolute privilege to be in this cat's presence whilst he put on a show for all and sunder whilst he spent over two hours in this Marula.

Nature finds a way to always leave us in awe of her beauty. This Male still has a long way to go on his journey, but, hopefully we can be present to witness a small part of it.

WHITE RHINO BULL

It is truly a wonder of nature to witness one of these remarkable wild beasts up close and personal. To hear the grunts, the way they breathe out especially when it’s in to the soil as they lie down or just to witness them grazing is a true wonder of nature.

These are remarkably complex and yet docile animals. In fact, so docile that they were not one of the original Big 5. It was only from a conservation perspective that White Rhino’s later on became classified as part of the Big 5. Their status as part of the Big 5 was an exception that was made for conservation purposes to draw attention to them as a species and thankfully that decision was made.

JELANI VS WARTHOG 2

Another stand off between the beautiful Jelani Male and a Warthog. Sitting with a leopard on any given day is a blessing. This one started with a few glimpses of Jelani through the thick grass. We had coffee with our guests @caroline.evans044 and Clive waitingly patiently for Jelani to get up.

Suddenly one warthog appeared from a drain under the road, then came a second. By this time Jelani was poised to attempt the third warthog which had popped out from under the road. This warthog was arguably the largest of the 3. Jelani gave it horns but the warthog managed to escape the threat of death through sheer strength and a will to survive.

What a way to start our morning!

Wild Dogs and Hyenas have a love, hate relationship at the best of times. Hyenas are never far behind them ready to steal a meal in a seconds notice.

But on this particular morning we found a pack of Wild Dogs and a clan of Hyenas resting peacefully and sharing space. Nature is always ready to open our eyes to the unusual, the surprising and the unexpected! Lions are so instinctive by nature. We see this every day in most of their actions however, when it comes to the pride and the bond they share, their love and care for each member is certainly tangible.

This pride, no matter how hot it was, were hell bent on ensuring no one had any personal space. It's remarkable to see how much more alert these lioness's are when it comes to their cubs. The Kruger is a special place and moments like this are priceless.

What a privilege it was to exit Satata Gate and find this magnificent Satara Pride lioness highly alert and on the move with her 3 tiny cubs. So focused on keeping her babies safe, she moved with purpose, ears listening intently to every sound in the bush as she brought them out into the open.

Such a powerful example in Nature of the absolute love of a mother. Protector, provider, a source of comfort and love. She would go to war for her cubs.

This moment was too special for words. It is a privilege on its own to be in the North especially at Shingwedzi. There's no doubt that a lot has changed in the North over the last few years. However, Shingwedzi will never stop giving breathtaking moments to those who visit the area and who truly love the North.

We couldnt believe our good fortune when we came accross 3 Cheetah Sub-Adults on the S50. After complete silence for an hour and with no other vehicles around, the bravest of the 3 came to inspect the vehicle. A moment in Kruger that @caitlinkendall83 @si_candy93 and ourselves will never forget.

A young Hyena cub tells it's older sibling/cousin to get lost, from the safety of mom's stomach of course.

Feisty, beautiful, curious and minblowingly intelligent. Hyenas are so often underestimated and certainly picked up an undeserved bad reputation from The Lion King!

These incredible animals are natures ultimate survivors, on top of that they are exceptional pack hunters, with a hit rate second only to Wild Dogs when they initiate a hunt.

Josh often asks me why they are my favourite animals and I will continue to answer, "Have you ever seen a skinny Hyena?"

Since Pinky and his brother Smokey entered the Malelane arena after being swiftly booted from their mom's (Ntsumi) territory they have put on an absolute show for all to see.

Pinky appears to still be finding his feet, he spent an entire afternoon being chased up a tree by Wild Dogs and subsequently shortly after that was chased up another tree by Hyenas.

His personality is definitely a special one!! His beauty though, is simply jaw dropping.

One cannot to explain the incredible feeling that flows throughout your body when one finds themself in the presence of one of these highly elusive and secretive birds. This is a bird that I once totalled over 4000km's in South Africa before finding my first one just a couple of Kilometres away from my previous house in Johannesburg 😂. It is a day that I will never forget. To have witnessed these remarkable birds a further 3 times (including this sighting) in the place we call home, the Kruger National Park, is an absolute blessing beyond belief. ORPEN PACK

Tamboti Rest Camp is famous for so many incredible facets. It has the Honey Badgers at night running amok; its the sawing of a leopard patrolling the camp perimeter at 2am; its the constant patrolling of Hyena's around the camp fence whilst the camps patrons start there fires; it's the chirping of the Scops Owl's throughout the night but lastly its famous for the Birmingham Pride of Lions and it's many resident Wild Dogs within the region.

Many people coming to Tamboti over the years have been given a spectacle by these remarkbale animals. We in the past have driven 10km's down the H7 in the early morning and then subsequently been escorted by the dogs back to Orpen Gate Camp. They are a privilege to witness. We had the incredible fortune of finding these dogs on the H7 two weeks ago with Lorenzo. In the pouring rain, almost comforting each other whilst they waited for the rain to abate. The Kruger always has a surprise or two on hand and we were so fortunate to be blessed with their presence a few minutes after joining the H7.

JELANI Jelani, the dominant male leopard in this

JELANI

Jelani, the dominant male leopard in this area on a mission to hunt. After missing a warthog, he made his way towards the cover of a bush to try and attempt a hunt on the Impalas who at the time were unaware of his presence.

Unfortunately for him one of the male Impalas spotted him using the drainage line and sounded the alarm.

He may have missed but what an absolute privilege to be in his presence and spend time with him.

MFOWETHU 1/4 SHISANGAAN MALES

The reign of Shishangaan Males has been observed by so many Krugerholics over the years. A formidable coalition including Casper, the white lion, who have ruled over the Satara Pride for years, they have fought and won battles, protected their sons and daughters and ensured that the Shishangaan legacy will continue long after they are their reign has ended.

At 10 years old these brothers and this coalition are certainly in trouble, surrounded by multiple coalitions who are closing in on their territory.

It will be an end of an era but they go down in history as true living legends and their legacy will live on long after they are gone. One thing I know, they will fight right to the end.

What a an absolute rush of adrenaline to leave Tamboti Camp in the afternoon come around a corner and spot this stunning cat lying in a tree. The light was just touching her face, turning her golden and she was nothing short of magnificent as she gave us a few minutes to appreciate her beauty before climbing down and moving off into the bush.

Casper, 1/4 Shishangaan Males. What can we say about this incredible lion. One of the most famous and iconic lions in the world.

For years the Shishangaan Males have been the Kings of Satara and have given every single visitor who has had the privilege of seeing him and spending time with them an absolute show.

Casper is his own special character, who has no problem having a full on nap in the middle of the tar road. His love for his brothers is fierce and evident, since Casanova and Mfowethu have unfortunately been struggling with their health. It has been Casper and Footloose who have taken the responsibility of protecting not only their territory but their brothers as well.

At the age of 10 these boys are reaching the end of an era, but no matter what transpires, they will forever remain Kings and will live on in our memories and hearts as true legends

What a special sighting of this beautiful Cheetah with @lorenzo__mancin

These Cheetahs are certainly such amazing animals and being in the presence of one is a privilege of the highest order. She kept herself completely concealed and patiently waited for the Impala herd to come closer. We waited in silence as they slowly made their way towards her, unfortunately one of the male Impalas spotted her and sent out the alarm.

What an incredible blessing it was to spend time with this gorgeous animal.

BIRMINGHAM WHITE LION CUB UPDATE 23 JAN 2025

Every single trip we make up to Tamboti, we always make sure we are up at 3:00 am listening to the bush and of course eager to check for any sign of the elusive Birmingham Pride.

The last 4 days with @lorenzo__mancin at Tamboti we have been searching for any tracks that might give us a glimmer of hope. This morning, after days of searching for tracks, we finally found them, our excitement levels increased as we followed the tracks down the road. As we round the corner, there they were. 23 lions strong. Their mere presence is formidable and left us all speechless. The adrenaline rush is exhilarating.

After seeing that the white lion cub was injured 6 days ago, we searched amongst the pride and found this beautiful little cub and we were absolutely elated to see that the wound is healing and the cub is full of life. The bush can be brutal and harsh but the sheer resilience of these lions is remarkable. The wound certainly seems to be irritating her but ultimately this will be a scar she carries with her for life.

Scars are not marks of weakness, but reminders of battles fought and won.

She is already a warrior. Her story doesn't end here and we are certainly blessed to be able to have been in her and this incredible prides presence.

Lorenzo, we are so privileged to have had you with us on safari, you are an amazing person and Africa is most definitely in your heart.

NSUKU AND HER CUB

Being a leopard is hard enough in the bush, but raising cubs to adulthood is the toughest job.

Mom is always keeping a close eye on her babies and in this particular case she was watching her second cub climbing up a tree. What scene and a sighting this was. One we will most certainly never forget.
